A Sustainable School for the Future
Local Secondary provision in the town of Swanage would overcome the long-term environmental implications of transporting all 600 Swanage secondary children daily to school in other towns.
A secondary in Swanage would remove the need for a fleet of buses travelling up the narrow and congested A351 through Corfe Castle on a 20 mile round-trip and would support DCC's policies on improving Sustainable Transport. Parents have already stated they intend to drive their children to school, in preference to using the bus when they transfer to Purbeck at age 11. This will cause further congestion on the A351. A secondary in Swanage would remove the need for these parents to drive their children to school.
A secondary in Swanage would have positive implications for children's health and wellbeing, obesity levels and access to opportunities for after-school sport, clubs and activities.
