Our Community
The Swanage School is founded by the community for the community.
Education Swanage was created by people who represented a broad range of local interests, including parents, teachers, TAs, school governors, and people already active in other community groups.
One of our guiding principles from an early stage was the involvement of the broader community, basing that principle on an understanding that a school supported by its community is stronger and more secure, leading to higher levels of achievement and good levels of behaviour.
By creating a cooperative Trust to oversee the school, anyone can become a member of the Trust for a £1 annual fee provided they sign up to the Trust’s values, subject to criminal record and due diligence checks.
A thriving town
The school will be a significant local employer and a popular secondary school is also good for the wider economy because it helps to attract and retain young families, helping to maintain Swanage as a fantastic place to live for all age groups. The school will also help fill other gaps in local provision, including sports facilities and adult education.
And by involving students with community groups, businesses and local services, we will build mutual respect between young people and their town.
This will place The Swanage School at the heart of the community, benefitting the whole community, as well as the families and children in the area.
